Changing the subject a bit - does anyone have any information on surviving rural back to back housing (not industry related)? I've been asked for advice on a group which are unlisted and I don't know how unusual they are. ______________________________________________ James Dinn BA MIfA Archaeological Officer - Worcester City Council email: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> telephone: 01905 721132 mobile: 07789 914772 address: Heritage and Design, Development Management Service, Worcester City Council, Orchard House, Farrier Street, Worcester, WR1 3BB ________________________________ From: Issues related to Historic Environment Records [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Jude Plouviez Sent: 14 February 2011 13:26 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Early Council Housing We have a row of listed very early rural council housing, built 1893-4 at Ixworth, Suffolk. The description refers to the Housing of the Working Classes Act of 1890 as enabling councils to acquire and develop land for housing - so makes sense that the LCC led from 1890 on this. The selling process has been rather quicker than the acquisition.... We are told that this was very early for a municipal housing scheme (the next one in Wolverhampton wasn't until 1919). I wondered if anyone else had records of Council Housing from a similar early period?
