Some useful tips for campaigning with local councillors from Mary Brown at Lambeth:

Dear ESOL campaigners

Had an informal meeting with a Labour Lambeth councillor this weekend who let slip some top tips:

·         any letters which are clearly a generic photocopy/ printed letter with only the signature added at the bottom go straight into the recycling

·         same with emails, if they are cc'd to all other councillors - delete button pressed!

·         councillors far less likely to respond to letters from people who are not in their ward due to time constraints

·         angry letters always ignored ("councillors are people too!")

His advice to guarantee response:

- write to the councillor of your ward - link here to who's who and where (for Lambeth only but good for students to look at if you can find your local version)

- write a friendly, individual, personalised letter and follow up with a personalised email.
