Amidst discussions of modern thematic studies and the modern ruins of Britain the following photo series appears on the Guardian website:

The images document examples of late Soviet architecture and are a strange and melancholic glimpse of a vanished world. In many cases the buildings transcend the monolithic concrete blocks that we in the west were told represented the zenith of Soviet design.
