This email is part of a series giving snapshots of activities planned for Focus 2011 in Harrogate from the 23rd to the 26th May
Here is part of the Focus “menu” for Wednesday the 25th of May. This session “Clinical Chemistry and the Coroner” is simply a must for anyone involved in, or interested in, Coronial work.
The session is opened by Mr Andrew Rennison, the Governments’ Forensic Science Regulator who will guide us through the Legal aspects/required standards and implications for NHS Clinical Chemistry laboratories undertaking forensic work. This will be followed by a presentation by Dr Stephen George who will give us an account of “The Laboratory Investigation of Forensic Toxicology Cases”. Dr Nigel Cooper, Senior Lecturer in Forensic Pathology at the University of Newcastle and Senior Home Office Pathologist will then follow by talking to us about "Interpretative Toxicology and Cause of Death - who gets the final say?”. This presentation is not for the squeamish! (also note the change from original speaker). The Coroner’s session finally concludes with a presentation from Dr Stephen Morley (Sheffield) who will then give us an insight into “The future of forensic work in clinical laboratories”.
So come and join us in Harrogate to hear about important updates to this complex and fascinating aspect of our laboratory service.
