Forthcoming grants deadlines – opportunities for postgraduates, and for international conference attendance

The following awards for postgraduate research and for conference attendance have a deadline of 25 February 2011:

Fieldwork Apprenticeships: £2000 available to take undergraduate students on academic led field projects

Through our Learning and Leading programme we have funding of £2000 to enable one of your department academics to take a first year undergraduate on an overseas research project this summer as a ‘Fieldwork Apprentice’.  If you undertake summer fieldwork overseas and could take a first year student do encourage your students to apply. This programme supports students for whom such opportunities are outside their previous experience and would not otherwise be available to them.  The application closing date is 28 January 2011, however if you are interested in applying please contact us to discuss: Amber Sorrell - Learning & Leading Project Co-ordinator, T: (0)20 7591 3180, E [log in to unmask], W www.rgs.org/Learning&Leading

How can we improve transport in Britain?  [flyer attached]

UK residents are encouraged to submit ideas that use geography to address the challenge of transport.  Winning ideas could share a slice of £150,000 to help make their idea happen.  There is also a share of £10,000 for the idea that demonstrates the best use of OS OpenData. Of this, £3,000 will solely be available to students or researchers in higher or further education in Great Britain.  The deadline for submitting ideas is 12 noon on 11 February 2011.  For more information, visit: W http://www.geovation.org.uk/geovationchallenge/
