I could be wrong but I have a sneaking suspicion that you can get these free on the internet. I have an Ipad and when I was looking at some of the available apps to download onto it, there was a free app for colour blindness testing and it highlighted the Ishihara plates. Might be worth a look, especially if you have an Ipad, Iphone or Ipod Touch!

Hi Pippa,

To my knowledge they haven't changed in design since first developed. You should, however, be aware that Ishihara plates deteriorate with exposure to light (and greasy fingers). So... the older they are, the more likely they have faded colours and therefore no longer a good assessment of colour perception. To limit this effect the book of plates should always be returned to the cardboard sleeve and you/the client should avoid touching the the plates with fingers.
