Wendy,
I’ve only just got home.
The 1839 text appears on the RGS-IBG’s OPAC (I merely entered ‘Dechen’ in the first single window as ‘Phrase or Words’ [or whatever] search). I can check it’s probable current existence tomorrow (Wednesday) – or you can contact the Society’s Foyle Reading Room (via the Collections’ centralised e-mail: [log in to unmask]) yourself directly.

Subject: Geognostische Übersichts-karte
von Deutschland ... (1839) & 2nd ed. (1869)
Does anyone have the explanatory text /Erlauterungen to Von Dechen’s Geognostische Übersichts-karte von Deutschland ... (1839) & 2nd ed. (1869) by H. Von Dechen.
I have found an entry for the 2nd edition in Bayern which indicates that the 2nd edition has an explanatory text /Erlauterungen. I can send a pdf of the library catalogue entry if the following link does not work:
If you do have it, can you tell me the size of the volume, please? Bayern only states that it has 60 pages. The British Library do not have any related text and I thought I would try UK sources before contacting the German library.
We have a large (folio) ‘mystery volume’ (no title page) in our book collection which I am beginning to think may be related to Von Dechen’s map, if only I can compare it with another library’s copy. Our volume contains a number of cross sections and I could send some sample images of these if this would help.
I shall look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Wendy
