In the current economic climate, academic libraries are under huge pressure
to demonstrate their value to parent institutions, and the shared services
agenda is high on the list for Library Directors. Although it may be
possible to deliver services more efficiently in a shared services
environment, the buy-in and active participation of other stakeholders like
publishers and intermediaries is crucial. This seminar will address some of
the key issues on the shared services agenda, and create a debate about how
the various stakeholders can work more efficiently together to deliver not
only enhanced services to end users but more cost-effective ones.

Who should attend: Librarians, Sales/Marketing, Technical Customer Services
or Operational Staff working for publishers, Intermediaries and End-users.
It may also be of interest to middle level and senior managers working in
higher education libraries.

This seminar will discuss and analyse the international library consortia
landscape, focusing mostly on Europe and the USA. Both libraries and
publishers will share their experiences, plans, expectations and strategies
going forward. How is the consortia market evolving? what has been the
impact of recent budget cuts, what strategies have they put in place to
safeguard their collections (is it really the end of the "big deal"?).
Librarians and publishers will discuss what has worked and what has not in
the past and what needs to change.

Who should attend: Sales and marketing professionals, from scholarly
publishers of all sizes and types. Anyone responsible for, or with an
interest in, sales of books, journals, databases or other content to the
scholarly and academic library market. Publishing professionals who are
already working with consortia or looking to break into the market;
librarians or consortia staff and agents involved in consortia agreements.
