Registration is open for the 6th annual e-Learning Symposium, organised by the Subject Centre for Languages, Linguistics and Area Studies (LLAS)

Day 1 (27th Jan) will consist of workshops on using technology in teaching.
Day 2 (28th Jan) will feature presentations including keynote speakers:

.       Agnes Kukulska-Hulme, Professor of Learning Technology & Communication, The Open University
.       Jon Beasley-Murray, University of British Columbia
.       Marina Orsini-Jones, Principal Lecturer in the Faculty of Business Environment and Society, Coventry University

Topics to be covered will include:

.       discussion of multimedia multiliteracies amongst students in the 21st Century
.       exploration of the latest research and practice in mobile learning
.       description and presentation of an innovative approach to using wikipedia in literature teaching
.       investigation into how a Masters degree programme was converted from face-to-face to online delivery
.       exploration of how Second Life can be used to support Year Abroad students
.       effective use of chat rooms to teach and run literature seminars
.       review of the use of Second Life for language teacher training in the AVALON project
.       investigation of peer assessment for speaking skills via electronic means
.       presentation and analysis of the advantages of mlearning including results of a survey into the use of tablets/apps for language learning
.       discussion of innovative ways of using technology to engage students of linguistics and interpreting
.       analysis of a Moodle-based training programme for tutors in how to make best use of web 2.0 tools in online tutoring
.       exploration of ways to improve academic literacy amongst postgraduate students using online tools

There will be four workshops running twice throughout the day, on day one of the symposium. These will include the following four options:

1. Using Facebook for language teaching
2. e-Flashcards for Language Learning and Teaching: Past, Present and Future
3. The Diachronic Electronic Corpus of Tyneside English (DECTE): effective practice in using this E-Learning Tool
4. A practical look at the www.busuu.com university platform: exploring the potential integration of a Web 2.0 SNS into the HE curriculum.

Each of the workshops will run twice during the day and participants will be asked to select their two preferred options in advance of the day.
