All GEM members in Scotland and elswhere are invited to a training day exploring Scots language at the new Robert Burns Birthplace Museum - see below. Please forward to any interested colleagues.

Enjoy Burns night tonight - and don't let that haggis boil dry.

Mind your Language: The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and Scots language in today’s curriculum

Friday 25th February 2011
10.00 – 3.00pm
Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, Alloway, Ayrshire

The newly-opened Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway provides an ideal venue to consider the place and potential of Scots language activities. A language in its own right, Scots is now an important part of Curriculum for Excellence, and its use in schools has been linked to improvements in all-round literacy, self-esteem and motivation.

This training event, planned in collaboration with the National Trust for Scotland will include:
A tour of the exciting and innovative Robert Burns Birthplace Museum
Presentations by museum staff highlighting the thinking behind the museum and their plans for delivering education
A practical session by Matthew Fitt, acclaimed Scots writer and co-founder of Itchy Coo Books, suggesting ways in which you might incorporate Scots language activities into your own formal and informal education programme.

Cost: GEM members £20 / Non-members £30
