Full-day seminar

Thursday 20 January 2011, The Public, West Bromwich
9.15 – 17.00
Delegates will explore how to use literature to draw children and young people, especially the hard-to-reach, into their collections. We will look at how to use literature-based activities to find an audience, engage with the local community and volunteers, and to raise the profile of museum and archive services in this area of work. There will also be plenty of time for networking with colleagues from within and outside the sector.
Speakers will include Tricia Kings from the highly successful Young Cultural Creators project, Sandeep Mahal of the Reading Agency, and Prue Goodwin, lecturer in literacy and children’s books, while witness session will feature a series of best-practice case studies, including:
· using ICT to engage with young people and literature
· poetry initiatives in the West Midlands
· an author’s experience of working with young people in museums and archives, with Celia Rees
· working with children and young people at the Harris Museum & Art Gallery
