I may be able to be there - am looking into it.
Its a great list!
I might just ask the overarching question: Transition to what?
If survival is all we are concerned about, we might find, it wasn't worth it.
Can we debate whether universities can help sketch out a vision of where we - humanity- ought to be heading next?
This goes to the heart of the questions about 'values'.

A few quick thoughts:
  • What might be meant by the student as 'a global citizen'?
  • What might interdisciplinary study look like?
  • How might issues of 'values' be included in curricula?
  • How might curricula explore matters of being in the world?  (ie, linking knowledge and skills to fundamental matters of being as such)
  • What might 'wisdom' look like in different subjects?
  • What might 'responsibility' look like in different subjects - ie, what is it for an engineer, an economist, a chemist, a doctor, a historian to be responsible?
(ie, the issues to be examined include forms of knowledge, their possible interactions, and students' development in the context of a globalised world and its challenges; and students' potential for ACTION.)

Dear Friends of Wisdom

I will be chairing a panel at this conference on the subject of a Transitions curricula for the universities. Does anyone on the list have any suggestions for the sort of questions I might ask, the relevant topics to explore?

Many thanks

Chris Shaw

This might be of interest to those who live not too far away from Winchester, UK.  It would be great if a Friend of Wisdom could go to the Conference, and report back.
