From an HR perspective it's important to establish a reasonable amount of detail so that any relevant support measures can be put into place, or referrals made to occupational health services, or in the case of repeated absences, it may be necessary to identify triggers. An employer must be given sufficient information to fulfil their duty to the employee in terms of health and safety legislation and I believe that can be recorded.
