I would say the only thing they can insist on is that you comply with s.7
and s.8 of the Act. Therefore, you must communicate the information they
are entitled to in 'intelligible form' and you must supply 'a copy of the
information in permanent form'. The Data Subject has options to restrict
the scope of the information provided, or to waive their right to a copy,
but I cannot find any provision for them to specify the form in which the
information is provided. That's your choice.

The information clearly does not have to be provided in the same format as
you hold it. For example, if you hold records on a database, you can (and
almost always would) comply with a SAR by printing out the relevant
information about that individual.

Our policy is to never send any data by email. We may confirm receipt of a
SAR or inform that a letter or data has been put in the post by email but
that is all.

My question is, can someone insist that we provide electronic copies of
their data ? They are asking us to email anything that we may have, not
provide it another electronic form.
