FW: Invitation to ESRC Fairness At Work Seminar at the Work Foundation 4th February
Dear Colleagues

Following on from the ESRC seminar we held at Brighton Business School on ‘Fairness At Work’ in December

http://www.brighton.ac.uk/bbs/research/groups/fairness/index.php?PageId=911

you are warmly invited to the forthcoming event at the Work Foundation

Firms, Families and Fairness
What does this mean for different groups during fiscal austerity?

Friday 4th February 2011 – 10 to 5.30pm
The Work Foundation, Palmer Street, London

Speakers include Will Hutton (Director of the Work Foundation), Colette Fagan (Manchester), Sarah Veale (TUC), Jacqueline O’Reilly (Brighton), Annette Cox (IES) Rosie Gloster (IES), Sue Marlow (De Montfort) and Mike Noon (Queen Mary’s).

The recession and the programme of public sector austerity many European nations are now following has provided a new context for the transitions people make in their working lives and how they seek to balance caring with working. How will different groups of workers be affected? And is the principle of “fairness” at work something that applies more easily in good economic times? In this roundtable, academics and policy specialists discuss research which examines how the labour market is adapting to the new political weather.

The event will address:
How individual employers can spur the transition between full and part-time work?
How households make choices about how to balance working and caring responsibilities?
Which groups of workers are likely to be most affected by public sector spending cuts?
How the employment relationship is governed in growing firms?

The programme for the seminar is attached with this mail.

Participation at this seminar is free.

There are a limited number of travel awards to assist post graduate students wanting to attend. For further details please contact:  Sue Haffner  at Manchester Business School <[log in to unmask]">[log in to unmask]>
