You don't have to do it. You do need source locations, but you can derive them based on previous studies, your hypothesis of any other theoretical consideration.


And what's the function of the sources' MNI coordinate? For projection?

As I explained in the previous e-mail DCM creates predicted sensor data using the lead field L. This lead field is computed for a particular source location and orientation.
