There is... Linux and build it for an ATX tower. Last time I did this
with an AMD Sempron 2800 (wow, 64 bit) I said next time I'll get a Mac.
However, the old Sempron system seems to be approaching landfill time
even if I no longer need do strange things to get 64 bit Linux to work.

So, I can build a quad core system including high end software for $1000
to $1200 AUD. At the cost of a Mac and software this is very cheap...
