Message from the MIST mailing list. First Joint UK-Ukraine meeting on Solar Physics and Space Science (UKU SPSS) and
Topical Advanced Summer School (TASS )
Black Sea, Crimea, Ukraine
29 Aug - 2 Sep 2011

Web: http://swat.group.shef.ac.uk/Conferences/Ukraine_UK_2011

Objectives of SPSS & TASS
======================

The meeting, joint with a topical summer school, will cover a broad range of solar physics, space science and solar-terrestrial relations.

We aim to include aspects of solar and space research, e.g. observations, theory, and numerical modelling. The main idea behind the meeting is to treat the entire solar-terrestrial domain as one physical system, rather than each region being considered independently. Speakers with interdisciplinary expertise are particularly welcome.

Scientific Programme
=================

The Scientific Programme includes although is not limited to the following topics:

- Solar observations: from the interior to heliosphere

- Numerical simulations in astrophysical plasma: beyond analytical models

- Analytical theory of waves in magnetized plasma

- Ionosphere and magnetosphere of the Earth: What really do we know?

The Topical Advanced Summer School (TASS) will bring together leading UK and international researchers to lecture and tutor about their own specialities to postgraduates and early career researchers. UK STFC supported students and PDRAs may be funded. First comes first serves.

A preliminary Scientific Programme  (with regular updates) of TASS and the joint meeting is outlined at:

http://swat.group.shef.ac.uk/Conferences/Ukraine_UK_2011/Summer_school.php

Format of UKU SPSS & TASS
=======================

The basic format of the joint event consist of

- 1-2 invited reviews [IR] per topic
- approx 2 (invited or regular) contribution [I/RC] talks per topic
- up to 2 lectures per topic in the afternoon for TASS participants
