medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture My nomination for the silliest version of St. Lucy's eyes (although the del Crosso comes close) is in Lorenzo Lotto's _St Nicholas in Glory with Sts John the Baptist and Lucy_ (1527-29, Chiesa dei Carmini, Venice): http://www.wga.hu/art/l/lotto/1527-30/09nichol.jpg The eyes are hovering over a small green dish toward the bottom-right corner of the clouds. (Presumably because if they were *in* the dish, we couldn't see them from this angle.)
