Your questions answered…
Question: More features are going to be added to NHS Evidence from May – can you provide any additional information?

Answer: The information leaflet attached highlights some of the new changes you can expect to see from May 2011. We look forward to providing you with additional information in the new year.

Tool kit
We are currently in the process of designing an area on NHS Evidence where you can access important resources, including search guides. This page will be going live soon.

Supporting the drive to improve efficiency
Now more than ever before, health and social care professionals need to be delivering more for less - demonstrating that NHS money is being spent wisely, to best effect, with the best possible outcomes. NHS Evidence is supporting the Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) agenda by providing access to a database of evidence-based examples setting out how to improve quality and productivity across the NHS. The aim of the collection is to provoke thoughts, ideas and discussions about how staff locally and nationally can deliver ‘more for less’, without reinventing the wheel.

The QIPP collection also includes Cochrane Topics; these come from the ‘implications for practice’ section in systematic reviews written by health professionals working internationally and published by the Cochrane Collaboration, and are presented with relevant background information, including costing analysis.

Please encourage your colleagues to access these resources which are available at: www.evidence.nhs.uk/qipp<http://www.evidence.nhs.uk/qipp>.

Developments to HDAS and HIR

SHALL content is extremely important to the service NHS Evidence provides. We remain committed to the development of HIR and HDAS, to ensure both search functions continue to perform well and meet the needs of users. From June 2011, we will work with users, including librarians, to understand what new enhancements may be required and what these could look like. Important updates on the work will be included in this bulletin going forward.

NHS Evidence service update page
The NHS Evidence service update page outlines the current technical issues on the Health Information Resources website and gives an update on progress to resolve them. The page is updated regularly, following progress reports from the NHS Evidence operations team. To access the page go to: http://www.evidence.nhs.uk/aboutus/Pages/Service.aspx.

Facebook and Twitter
NHS Evidence now has a Facebook page and a Twitter account.
To join on Facebook: Type in ‘NHS Evidence’ into the search box at the top of the home page. When you reach the NHS Evidence page, click ‘like’ in the panel on the left hand side.
To join on Twitter: Once you are logged in, go to ‘Find people’. Type ‘NHS Evidence’ into the search box and click the ‘follow’ icon.

Reprocurement - national core content
Reprocurement of the national core content by NHS, NHS Evidence & JISC Collection colleagues continues to progress. Further information and updates are available at: www.libraryservices.nhs.uk/forlibrarystaff/information/procurement.html<http://www.libraryservices.nhs.uk/forlibrarystaff/information/procurement.html>.

NHS Evidence Mobile
NHS Evidence has launched its official mobile application allowing users access to the site's content via their mobile phones. Instructions for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch owners to create an NHS Evidence home icon can be found on the site by clicking on 'Mobile access' under the 'About Us’. Please note that this is a developing resource.

Liberating the NHS: Potential implications for NICE and NHS Evidence
The Government’s White Paper, Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS, and its associated documents – Greater Choice and Control and An Information Revolution – set out proposals to give patients control over access to information and the care they receive and to empower all professionals to be able to access high quality information to deliver high quality care.

On 10th December, staff across NHS Evidence and NICE met with over thirty representatives from patient organisations and royal colleges to discuss how the new vision could impact the future development of NHS Evidence. The workshop, which was held at BMA House in London, included discussions around:

 * What role NHS Evidence could have in providing access to more patient information/patient leaflets
 * How the NHS Evidence Accreditation Scheme could be expanded
 * How NICE/NHS Evidence could help people identify treatments of ‘proven clinical value’
 * How NHS Evidence could facilitate access to related information, such as ongoing trials and healthcare data?

Feedback received from the workshop will inform NICE’s response to the White Paper and its associated documents.

Using NHS Evidence to improve quality and productivity: NHS Evidence and NICE Implementation working with Chief Knowledge Officers - held 13th October 2010

Please note that feedback from the recent CKO event is now live on NHS Evidence: http://www.evidence.nhs.uk/aboutus/Pages/NewsPage.aspx.
