In Rivette's Paris nous appartient, the plot revolves (partly) around
the mystery of what happened to Juan, apparently dead from suicide. At
one point, Anne (the principal protagonist/investigator) is shown a
photograph of Juan and the camera zooms immediately in to focus on his
companion in the picture, so that we never actually get to see what Juan
looked like.
