Hi Stella I don't understand the focus on GOLA as this is only available for English FS - with Maths and ICT still in development, and I'll be very surprised if this is ready for 11/12 assessment. We have a very limited number of GOLA facilities (impeded further by the mandatory upgrade we are doing before Xmas and IT here wanting to rebuild as few PCs as possible) - altogether 22 PCs across 2 rooms, as well as 10 laptops, and 2 laptops set up for workplace testing. Once the new upgrade is sorted in the new year, I expect we'll sneak GOLA onto an odd few more PCs for those candidates requiring special arrangements, but so far the laptops are proving very useful due to their flexible nature. All our January FS assessment activity is paper-based. We have almost 1000 learners on programme for Functional Skills, including the 14-19 Diploma learners, and my main problem with this subject is that we don't have FS coordinators - it is down to each faculty to sort themselves out and we expect entry and exam requests from the lecturer actually assessing it. I have managed, however, to get the faculties on board with our own revised procedures. and they are supporting the supervision of their own tests, whether GOLA or paper-based, rather than there being an expectation for Exams to sort out invigilation. Sorry - probably veering away from your issue... We currently have GOLA loaded in our main testing rooms, and also dedicated functional skills classrooms, however our Functional Skills Co-ordinators have requested GOLA software in all classrooms, as quite often the functional skills teaching is embedded in their main programme, and therefore learners are taught in multiple classrooms. This is proving a logistical nightmare for our IT team. If you can let me know the set up at your college, then at least we can put some weight behind the argument that it is not practical to load the software in virtually all classrooms.
