Dear Colleagues,

Following Julia’s email earlier this morning, you may be interested to know that she is running a workshop here next week.  There are places available, and some of you may find it more convenient to travel to Cardiff than London!  If you are interested in joining us or need more details you can contact me ([log in to unmask]) or Julia.

Preservation Assessment Survey Workshop

Tuesday, 14 December 2010, 11.30 – 4.30

Glamorgan Archives, Clos Parc Morgannwg, Cardiff CF11 8 AW (see www.glamro.gov.uk/where%20are%20we.html for directions)

The Preservation Assessment Survey provides statistical evidence of preservation practice and enables institutions to determine preservation priorities.

This Preservation Advisory Centre workshop is designed for library and archive staff. It introduces the Preservation Assessment Survey methodology and demonstrates the benefits of carrying out a survey. No previous knowledge of preservation is required. Participants will learn to:

·         plan a survey

·         select a statistically valid sample

·         assess the condition of collection items

·         identify factors affecting their preservation.

There will be ample opportunity for discussion giving participants the chance to discuss how a survey will work best for their organisation. The workshop includes practical sessions and is popular amongst previous participants "I got a much better background on the purpose and scope of the surveys. They provide a great evidence base for advocacy”.

Workshop fee: £55.00 +VAT

For the full programme and to book, please visit: www.bl.uk/blpac/pasworkshop2.html

The Preservation Assessment Survey (PAS) is a standardised survey methodology which has been used by over 300 libraries and archives in the UK and Ireland since its launch in 2001. Participants have successfully used the results to support funding bids and to inform internal planning and budgeting for preservation. For further information, including cost see: www.bl.uk/blpac/paslib.html
