Clinical Officer Surgical Training in Africa (COST-Africa) – a randomised controlled trial.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Research Fellow in this five year research project: Clinical Officer Surgical Training in Africa (COST-Africa).  This cluster randomised controlled trial project will design, implement and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of a surgical training programme at the district hospital level in Malawi and Zambia.

The post holder will provide support to the Principal Investigator (PI – Professor Ruairí Brugha) in coordinating the project and ensuring deliverables and reporting to the European Commission are done on schedule.  S/he will proactively engage with, develop, implement and keep the project on track, through agreed mechanisms and in accordance with project and governance protocols.

The post-holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the research project, coordination of the work packages (activities required for achievement of the objectives), the coordination of project inputs and supporting partners in preparing reports.  S/he will be directly involved in and will oversee the research activities, will participate in authoring research outputs (journal articles, conferences, etc.); and will prepare project reports, including scientific, management and financial reports.

The successful candidate will be appointed on the Research Fellow scale (see below) or the Post Doctoral Researcher scale, depending on qualifications and experience.  This is a Dublin-based position.  However the post-holder will be required to spend sufficient time in Malawi and Zambia to ensure project objectives are achieved.

Salary Scale		€37,750 to €56,442
