I have enjoyed the conversation, but don't you think that
these scamsters deserve to be outed in other places?

This message has nothing to do with any previous threads
but I thought it might amuse some of you out there, it is
Friday after all and frankly I just had to tell somebody
as I am still a little stunned by it so please excuse me
while I enjoy some writing therapy.
Cut to the chase. Yesterday I got a call ( they tried to
get me during the 2 minute silence) from a TV company. I
heard the ansa phone message when I got home and returned
the call, stardom beckoned at last I thought. The guy
talked with speed and painted it very brightly, he was the
director after all, and did use the trick of playing to my
vanity, those of you who have met me will know this can be
very effective with someone as shallowly egotistical as I
am.
It was my chance to be part of a video program that was to
be shown on a rolling loop in the main auditorium, the
exhibition space and apparently the hotel rooms of a
conference(!) of the great and the good of education. They
asked me as their researchers had identified me as in
their top ten list of "Thought Leaders" on the future of
education, "of course" I thought basking in warm glow of
finally being appreciated.
I would have complete editorial control of the 4 min bit
in the loop and also get a good couple of hours of footage
to use as I like that would be filmed by professions and
be of the highest quality, and for this was of course a
cost, he eventually came to the nub, the hard nuggety nub,
of his call. A bargain at £15K, yes, that is right, I have
not missed out the decimal point, well in fact £14,750 but
hey what is 1.666% between friends. Now they will have to
fall back on their reserve list, what a shame. I hope
somebody goes for it or all those glorious delegates will
have to find something else to watch in their rooms while
they drift off to the land of Nod.
It does make a change from the people calling trying to
get me to take advertising space in their directories and
leaflets that go to "Key Decision" makers in schools and
promptly lie in the staff room, stained with coffee rings,
unloved let alone read, collecting dust, or make their way
straight to the great recycling bin in the sky.
The last one of these sales people tried a cunning plan.
When I told them that I thought the fee to be included in
their plush periodical was a little steep, she immediately
halved it and would have gone even lower if I could have
bothered to press her a little more, but pulling the legs
off spiders has never been my thing and like us all she
was just trying to make a shekel.
