Part of the confusion between Nicaragua and Costa Rica seems no just to obey to political factors related to intervention of Costa Rica in the dispute resolution before ICJ between Colombia and Nicaragua on the maritime zones:

 

Eden Pastora, Senior official in charge of the dreddging of San Juan River, quotes Google maps, which are quite different from the maps of the demarcation joint commission of 1900.

 

It seems we are facing a "grande première" in international law boundary discussion: the first limit confusion due to... Google Earth inaccurate maps !!!!!
