Dear All,

I contacted the ICO about the case and they said that the personal information referred to in the press release was on personal telephone numbers and signatures. They said that they had noticed that these were being included in the published planning information.

They recommended that Councils review their approach to personal information in online planning documents against the PARSOL guidance issued in 2006.

I hope this is of use to the list.

Best,

Lawrence

Subject: [data-protection] Councils and Planning Information

The Information Commissioner’s Office is to monitor local authorities across the country for compliance after a district council published the personal data of planning applicants on its website.

The watchdog received a complaint from a resident in 2008 that New Forest District Council had failed to appropriately redact personal data from their planning application before it was published on the authority’s site.

Council DPOs may wish to make a quick call to planning departments!
