Ben (et al)

Right on the mark.  The actual risk lies in what we say more than what we show.

It is so easy for me to be careful and just as easy for my “friends” to be careless.

For example, my facebook does not show my age, a security preference, but my friends wish me happy 21st (he lies!) on 1st January (he lies again).  My “friends” then ask if I am going t pub tonight, and so it goes on.  Lets not think about my space and linked in, to name but a few.

These where am I now tools can identify your home and your pub.  Wonderful, now I can be burgled safely!

Please be warned insecure social communication can bite you hard and it could hit your wallet, which may, or may not be close to your bottom!

As a parent, photographs concern me less than the metadata linked to them……..

Paul

Seems to me that what schools can usefully do is to put out guidance - for pupils and parents - about managing privacy on FaceBook (and on the web more generally). Teaching digital literacy is more useful than being heavy-handed about it.

The parents take photographs in their capacity as parents, ordinary citizens.

The ordinary citizen may do whatever it wishes with pictures that it owns the copyright to, including placing them on Facebook. No consent is required.

Anyone seeking to control ordinary citizens may discover that this attempt comes back and bites them in the bottom. This includes seeking to ban photography in schools.

I see no issue at all.

Hi

I would just like to hear your views on how you would tackle this issue.  Parents taking photos in schools (in Scotland Education is part of Council remit) - anyway - it has been brought to my attention that some parents may be putting photos on Facebook that they have taken at school - without consent.    Other than sending letters out to advise that they should not do this I can't come up with any other solution.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
