Professor
Ted Schatzki will deliver a public lecture, 'Materiality and
Social Life', on
Wednesday 3rd of November at the University of Sheffield
As a prominent theorist of action and philosopher of social
science with
growing impact upon the discipline of Geography, Professor
Schatzki is visiting
the Department of Geography at the University of Sheffield
as the department's
2010 Hart Distinguished Scholar.
He is author of Social
Practices: A Wittgensteinian Approach to Human
Activity and the Social (1996), The Site
of the Social: A Philosophical Exploration of the
Constitution of Social Life and Change (2002), Martin
Heidegger: Theorist of Space(2007), and The
Timespace
of Human Activity: On Performance, Society, and
History as Indeterminate
Teleological Events (2010). He is also
contributing coeditor of The
Practice Turn in Contemporary Theory (2001)
and of a special issue of the journal Human
Affairs on Action and Practice Theory
(2007).
The
lecture takes place at 17.00 – 18.30, Wednesday 3rd
November, in
the Richard Roberts Auditorium at the University of
Sheffield.
