Eleanor I haven't experience of using these ramps but from the website these appear to be more aimed at portability. I actually think that 4 steps, with an average height per step of 150mm would mean an overall height of around 600mm? Even going down to 1 in 10 , which is fairly steep, would mean something at least 6 metres long would be fairly bulky and unwieldy. The ramp as shown once deployed doesn't appear to have much grip and I certainly wouldn't like to be negotiating such a gradient especially in an emergency. Is there no scope to actually put a permanent ramp in, instead of the steps? It could be a semi permanent type, that could be removed if required but was there in place, with handrails etc to make a safe route whether in emergency or normal use? There is a flight of 4 steps as an escape route/exit in the eventuality of emergency evacuations/fire. http://www.rollaramp.co.uk/index3/ Has anybody used them?
