The Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF) and funded by federal and state government. AWI focuses on polar and marine research in a variety of disciplines such as biology, oceanography, geology and geophysics thus allowing multidisciplinary approaches to scientific goals.

The Helmholtz Open Access Coordination Office invites applications for the position of a

Research Associate (m/f)

to foster the activities of “open access to research data” at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven.

The Helmholtz Association was one of the first signatories of the “Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities” in 2003.  Since 2005 the Helmholtz Open Access Coordination Office supports the Helmholtz research centres to implement open access at their institutions.

Duties:

We seek a research associate (m/f) who will conduct the European funded research projects Opportunities for Data Exchange (ODE) and APARSEN Network of Excellence and will work within the Helmholtz Open Access Coordination Office.  

Requirements:

·         University degree

·         Advanced knowledge in the field of open access

·         Advanced knowledge and experiences in the field of information management and scientific communication

·         Fluent command of spoken and written English

·         Working knowledge of German

·         Excellent capacities for teamwork and strong communication skills

This full-time position is fort two year’s duration, starting on 01 January 2011. Salary will be according to civil service guidelines (TVÖD).
