Hi Annette,

Sorry it took me so long to come back on this question.

Optionally, Aspire customers can pass module/course codes across from their Identity Provider service (Shibboleth/Athens) when users log into Aspire. If these codes are passed, Aspire will assume the user is enrolled on these modules/courses and will add the relevant lists automatically to the user's My Lists page. This has been part of the product since late 2008.

The change on 30th September included a notification to the user when these codes change i.e. at the start of a new academic year, informing the user that there are new lists added to their My Lists collection.

Thanks,

Chris

I'm not sure I know what you mean by "1. If you pass enrolled modules to
Aspire, the My Lists page will inform the user of these new enrolments (and
add them to the My Lists collection)." - could explain please.

Hi all,

Yesterday we released a new version of Aspire.

This release included extensive under the hood changes for the My Lists
page. Previously, users with long collections of My Lists were
experiencing performance issues with the screen. In addition, users were
not able to remove either the lists they were enrolled on, or were list
publishers for, from the screen - this made the first problem worse, as
users could not always reduce the size of their My Lists collection!

We've now addressed these problems in the new release. Users can now
remove any list from My Lists, and the page has been re architected so
that exceptionally long collections can load in the background. Users
will be able to interact with the page and perform actions on lists
whilst long collections load.

To address the performance problem, we've had to change the shape of the
data under the hood. So, a data conversion is performed in the background
the very first time a user enters My Lists (after the release). On
particularly long collections this might take more than one visit to
complete. Once the conversion has been done the loading time of the
screen should be much improved.

As part of this work, we also took the opportunity to include a couple of
enhancements:

1. If you pass enrolled modules to Aspire, the My Lists page will inform
the user of these new enrolments (and add them to the My Lists
collection).
2. The actions column on the My Lists page was getting very untidy as the
amount of utility in the system grows. We've changed this to be a drop
down menu instead. If this proves popular, we'll be rolling it out to
other areas of the system.

In other news, we also improved the performance of the system elsewhere
too:

* Browse hierarchy: Some nodes with large amounts of children wouldn't
load, we've fixed this
* Bookmark preview screen: We've improved the performance here, too.

Any questions let me know,

Chris Clarke
