[With apologies for cross-posting] Are your collections something to shout about? Why not tell the world? Nominations are now open for the UK Memory of the World Register. This is the second round of nominations following the Register's hugely successful launch earlier this year. The Register features archive collections or documents which are considered to be culturally significant to the UK. The Register is part of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Memory of the World Programme, which helps promotes outstanding documentary heritage. Discover the 10 items and collections currently on the UK Register at www.unesco.org.uk/2010UKregister. Anyone can make a nomination and all archive formats are eligible, including digital and audiovisual. A simple and quick nomination form with outstanding potential. The institutions with items and collections on the UK Register have already seen outstanding results, including: * Increased visitor and volunteer levels * Raised profile of the collection within their organisation, including additional funding commitments * Visits from local politicians and MPs * Newly-inspired staff and volunteers * Used in support funding bids So why not join a growing global network and draw international attention to your collection through a UN agency. Visit www.unesco.org.uk/UK_Register for further details and to apply. The deadline for nominations is 31 January 2011. UNESCO's Memory of the World programme promotes preservation of and access to the world's archive holdings and library collections. The vision of the programme is a simple but powerful one - the world's documentary heritage belongs to all, should be fully preserved and protected for all and, with due recognition of cultural mores and practicalities, should be permanently accessible to all without hindrance. Nominations to the UK Register will be considered against a range of criteria including authenticity, rarity, integrity, threat and social, spiritual or community significance. The full inscription criteria and nomination documents are available at www.unesco.org.uk/UK_Register.
