The MLA Self Assessment Framework can
help museum, library and archive staff develop their skills, knowledge and
understanding to work with children, young people and the wide range of
organisations that support them.
The MLA Self
Assessment Framework interprets the six core skills or
areas of expertise from the Common Core Framework developed by the
Children’s Workforce Development Council for the wider children’s
workforce. These core skills reflect a set of common values and defines the
basic skills and knowledge needed by those working with children, young people
and families.

The Self
Assessment Framework can be used by staff and volunteers in all museums,
libraries and archives in a variety of ways:

part of formal performance appraisal,
planning systems and
induction

As
an individual planning and assessment tool.
·
In
schemes which contribute to Continuing Professional Development.
·
To
assist in writing job descriptions and define skill needs for job roles
