Dear all,

We are looking for a high capacity Project Manager with at least 5+
years experience of management in the field to handle a team of 32
social workers. Our target groups is in Cairo and is:

Street living/ street working/ street families/their families and
communities (0-24 years old plus families and communities).

The project is multi-faceted, more like a mini-NGO in many ways as there
are so many branches to it. We have a Drop-In Center where 25-40
children come daily to access a variety of services (medical,
counselling, recreational, non-formal education etc). Our project is
modelled on our partners, Friends International, based in Cambodia, who
provide us with technical assistance on a quarterly basis
(http://www.friends-international.org/) and have been our mentors since
we commenced in 2007. In the same building as the Drop-In Center (DIC),
a newly opened Transitional Home(TH) (currently 5 residents 9-15years
all male); a medical team (very small indeed with a newly recruited
doctor), an Outreach team (currently 6 social workers on the streets at
night making contact with the children); a Child Friendly School
(teaching children in the TH the curriculum in an
interactive/progressive way); a Case Management team composed of the
social workers - this is focused on Reintegration (the core of our
project) and a Vocational Training element to the project which
currently outsources our training to workshops where children are
trained in apprenticeship style trainings on the job. Within the Case
Management section of the project, we offer small grants (hardly
started), alternative livelihood strategies for street families/those
with working children wishing to take their children off the streets and
put them into school, and Home Based Production for mothers also wishing
to take their children off the streets and produce from home.

Any child coming into the TH, needs to opt for full-time education or
vocational training to ensure their reintegration into society. All
children coming into the TH are previously case-managed by our social
workers and have been coming to the DIC for some time to show their
committment. The reason its called a Transitional Home is because its a
transition between life on the streets and reintegration. We prepare
all cases to reintegrate into their own families, those of care-givers,
civil society, independent life, jobs etc. We only take children into
the TH if we cannot reintegrate them first.

We're looking for someone with fluent Arabic, passionate, highly
self-motivated, who has the ability to work alone, take initiative,
build solid relations with their team, and learn fast. They will be
running the team, reporting monthly on the projects (see annual report
for info attached), and pushing the project forward. The team needs a
high capacity individual to support them, increase their capacity and
nurture their abilities. The majority of the 30 social workers have
been with the project for over 18 months so have received a fair amount
of technical training in our specialised methods. This PM would need to
embrace those methods and support the approach we have whole-heartedly.
This person would be supported by the London office (me) and Belgium
(Flavia), whilst in Egypt, the Country Director on the ground is more
engaged with the government side of things (need for high diplomacy) and
less on the technical - hence the ability to work independently.

The DIC/TH is situated near the Cairo airport, and 4/5 days a week the
PM would be there on the ground, whilst he/she would spend a day a week
in the HQ at Garden City to focus on reporting. The center is far out
and takes time to travel to. The job is a big one; not easy, many
difficult cases and highly challenging but highly rewarding. FACE is
known to have the most innovative street children's project in Egypt,
and is highly regarded by its peers and government partners (we work
independently of the government, but traing some of their staff and keep
good relations). We think this to be a hugely exciting opportunity for
the right candidate.

I am currently on maternity leave, but please do not hesitate to
contact, Flavia Shaw-Jackson, the Founder of FACE, on +32 477 715 950
for more information.
