In short, cycle trips are similar for all 5 income
quintiles, but higher income quintiles cycle further than lower ones. (Higher
income quintiles travel more as well).

The highest real income quintile has been showing the
biggest (even if very slight) increases in recent years.
An average trip distance of 4.7 miles for this group is
interesting – it’s much farther than most models/government
assumptions admit is possible on a bike.

Subject: stats on cycling by income / social class?
A colleague from the European Public Health Assoc (Ms
Anne Hoel, in cc)
Who is on the SANCO Platform for Diet & Physical
Activity recently asked me about
stats on cycling by income and/or social class. One
reason is that SANCO wants to
look at how to improve health for so-called vulnerable
groups, including
low income.
The ECF is interested in this info too.
Thus:
Do you know where to find statistics on cycling by
income and/or social class?
as ever
