Graham
Thank you for your interest.
Unfortunately , as this is a short project, the timescale is limited and there
will not be opportunities for workshops after December. However, we will be
providing an opportunity to participate online through our WIKI (http://arc.tees.ac.uk/WIDE
) and possibly through an online workshop if there is enough demand.
In the meantime, if you have any
great ideas for widgets and can’t attend the workshops, please feel free
to contact either myself ([log in to unmask]) or Voula Gkatzidou ([log in to unmask]).
Best wishes
Elaine

Simon,
This sounds a really interesting project and I would love to contribute.
Unfortunately, this is rather short notice and there is no way I could t it
into my diary. I am sure others will feel the same.
Do you have any plans to run
later workshops (Jan, Feb?) ohavesome other way for people to contribute.

With
apologies if you receive this through several channels
Hi all
I would
like to invite you to participate in a workshop that forms part of the WIDE
project being run by Teesside University as part of JISC’s Distributed
Learning Environments programme.
The
WIDE project will design widgets to support disabled students – what we
need from you is the ideas! You don’t have to have any technical
expertise whatsoever, what we need you to do is to think about the barriers
your students currently face that potentially technology might be able to
solve, and come to the workshop where you will be helped to turn that into a
design for a widget.
All
three workshops are open to anyone with good ideas about how we might better
support disabled students using technology. The success of the project depends
on your ideas! If you are interested please read the overview below and sign up
for one of the workshops. If you have any questions please contact Voula at the
WIDE project team ([log in to unmask])
rather than me!
Best
wishes
Simon

Overview
The
Accessibility Research Centre (ARC) at Teesside University is holding a series
of one day workshops on the "design of widgets for inclusive distributed
environments". The events are part of a JISC-funded Distributed Learning
Environments (DLE) project to develop resources to extend the functionality and
flexibility of VLEs.
These events are of interest to those directly involved with the teaching or
support of disabled learners and students in FE and HE, including lecturers,
tutors, learning technologists, disability coordinators etc. The workshops are
an opportunity for participants to specify and produce learning designs that
will be developed for you into bespoke small applications known as widgets.
About
The
workshop will give participants an overview of existing accessibility widgets
and prepare you for thinking about the potential of widgets for accessible
e-learning. Working in small groups, you will brainstorm, discuss, design, and
refine ideas for your own learning designs into a requirements specification
for the widgets. At the end of the workshop, participants will be provided with
a memory stick containing JISC RSC EduApps, presentation material from the
workshop, a link to the Wookie server where the widgets will be hosted and some
sample widgets. Post-workshop, each specification will be transformed into a
widget by the ARC developers, and the participants will then evaluate the
finished product online. You do not need to have any experience of widget
development.
Outcomes
A
suite of bespoke, accessible learning applications (widgets) based on delegates
own designs that can be used with their students and learners, shared and
adapted.
