I feel very sorry for new archivists these days. I think I am part of a lucky generation that found a job comparatively easily at a time when jobs were not time or project limited. So, Holly and others, you have my sympathy.

One tip for when you apply for a job: the first step is usually a sift of applications to choose those to be interviewed. The quality of the application is important as well as your eligibility for the job. As well as the usual stuff of ensuring you write lucidly and use spell-check, take advantage of the opportunity, if there is one, to explain why you are someone they should consider for the job. Look carefully at the job requirements and make connections to your skills and experience.
