Are we to assume from the lack of published salary that those for whom salary is important need not apply?  Much in the way that smart jewellery shops do not display prices (if you need to ask you can't afford it). 

there have been a number of jobs advertised recently that do not indicate salary.  It is really not helpful to the job seeker, nor to the recruiter - to go through the whole process to discover/be told "I can't afford to work for you" is frustrating and time-wasting in the extreme. 

Is this lack of openness about salary levels an attempt to try and drive the salary down as far as possible?
