"It is hard when an institution decides to replace its qualified (but temporary) archivist with an unqualified (but permanent) employee from elsewhere in the company due to cuts, thus meaning another qualified archivist looking for work and another student added to the archive course who probably had no intention of becoming an archivist in the first place."

Not meaning to be cynical, but if an institution can replace their qualified staff so easily with unqualified staff, this might suggest the futility of studying for the qualification in the first place. It may be better to just get as much work experience as physically possible instead. Just spitballing.
