Tim,

Yes they would.

A few years ago, we had a baby with strips (not sure of the brand now) saying 9.8 mmol glucose and our lab Glucoses measured 2.5 mmol/L.

When the ward complained at our “inaccurate glucose measurements”, I suggested accelerated assay of Galactosaemia screen and it was positive. The ward was then very happy with our diagnosis.

Regards

Greg

Subject: GALACTOSE LEVELS

Does anyone know what levels of blood galactose levels you would find in galactosaemia?  I am trying to see if the levels would be sufficient to cause falsely elevated levels on glucose test strips.  (manufacturers have tested up to 3.33mmol/l)

Tim.
