I've found conflicting meanings or derivations for the Hebrew word Esther; Persian in origin meaning Star or Ishtar, Hebrew for 'hidden', Hebrew for Myrtle. can anyone point me to an authoritative source?

Thanks much,
C

Never heard of it myself. Might be a garbled transmission. Jungians play notoriously fast and loose with alchemy symbols.
Could be we're talking about some physical alchemy operation where the material in question has a solar attribution?
There's also that book of "Rosey-Crucian Secrets" by pseudo-Dee, which might be a source for some strange "RC" spiritual alchemy.
There are plenty of great places to look on Dee's alchemy. Ambix has done a whole journal volume, there have been conferences:

Forshaw's article on post-Dee alchemical reception of Dee's monas is here http://www.john007dee.com/alchemical_monas.pdf
I would recommend to any interested student the books by Clulee (on Dee's science) and Clucas (ed. interdisciplinary essays)

Also the great book by Deborah Harkness (review here http://www.esoteric.msu.edu/Reviews/harkness-review.html )
Also Clulee's article in Newman and Grafton "Secrets of Nature" -- "astronomia inferior: legacies of trithemius and dee"

I just got the following request for info.  I have yet to encounter a mention of Dee creating an artificial sun via alchemy (or describing how to do so).  Anyone have any ideas for further reference?  Or has anyone even heard of this one?

Dear Aaron,

I’m looking for some pointers to a book with reference to Dee ’s alchemical work which produces an artificial sun.  I found this reference in Jung and the Alchemical Imagination (Jeffrey Raff).  There is a reference given, but I’m wondering if there are any other sources, preferably from Dee ’s own writings.

If you are able to suggest anything, I would be very grateful.

Love,
Harry Wendrich
