12.30 : Typographic Dante

Barrie Tullett of The Caseroom Press talks about his latest work and his

1.30 : The Artist Book Group

Jenny Smith will give an illustrated talk about The Artist Book Group.
The Artist Book Group is a group of practicing artists who work in a
variety of mediums, and come together to explore the book format within
the context of their wider practice. It was set up and is run by Jenny
Smith and meets in her Edinburgh studio for a day six times a year.
Jenny will talk about the aims and objectives of the group and work
produced by members.

2.30 : How to Make a Paperback

Novelist and indie publisher Hamish MacDonald will show you how to print
and bind your own perfect-bound paperback books at home.

3.30 : Animal Vegetable Material

Artist David Bellingham talks about Animal Vegetable Material: he will
give a brief introduction about books without commercial distribution
and specifically free distribution, followed by a flip chart 'reading'
of work from the book. The book will be available free - drop in to the
SPL to collect your copy from 25 September onwards.

4.30 : The Edwin Morgan Archive

Julie Johnstone, SPL Librarian and curator of the Edwin Morgan Archive,
shows a selection of ephemeral, letterpress and typographic items from
the Edwin Morgan Archive and from the Ian Hamilton Finlay collection
donated to the SPL by Edwin Morgan. www.edwinmorgan.spl.org.uk 

 

Workshops

Bookmaking and bookbinding workshops will run throughout the day at our
workshop table. 

11am-1pm : Workshop sessions led by Artist Book Group members

11.00 : Pamphlet binding (small booklet) by Jen Bruce
11.45 : Little Book of Secrets (folding book with hidden parts) by Susie
Wilson
12.30 : Pocket envelope and flutter book (origami) by Lynda Wilson

1pm-6pm : An all afternoon drop in session facilitated by Isabelle Ting
of the Owl & Lion Gallery

There is no formal booking for this afternoon session - join the table
when a seat is free
