The appointment will be 50% in the Musicology Department at Eastman, and 50% in the Music Department in the School of Arts and Sciences. Applicants can specialize in any area of ethnomusicology. Candidates will be requested to supply evidence of outstanding ability in research and excellence in teaching. Potential teaching assignments range from undergraduate world music surveys and special topics courses, to graduate courses and seminars for Master’s and Doctoral students. Applicants must have completed the PhD by Sept. 1, 2011. The Eastman School’s Musicology Department offers a Master’s Degree in ethnomusicology, as well as a PhD in musicology with an ethnomusicology track. The College Music Department offers undergraduate programs in world music and a 3+2 program in ethnomusicology, whereby a student earns both a BA in music and the MA in ethnomusicology. In addition, the University supports two Balinese Gamelan, a Zimbabwean mbira ensemble, and West African Drumming/Dancing ensembles, as well as the Sibley Music Library, the largest academic music library in North America. Review of applications begins on October 18, 2010.
