medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

The priests and Eucharistic ministers had orange umbrellas held over them -
not, as my husband initially thought, to protect them from the forecast (but
almost miraculously absent) rain, but so communicants could see where to

in most depictions of processions, above the reliquary being carried, is

not to shield it from the sun/rain, but rather to let everybody know where
the
Main Event was in the procession.
