We are staying in the same building, but will be at street level, so there will no longer be any stairs to climb! Our bright new entrance is just round the corner from the existing door. A new and accurate map of Scotland : drawn from surveys and the most approved maps & charts and regulated by Astron[omical] observations in which are delineated the routes of the several armies in 1745 & 1746 and the Pr[ince]s secret course by land and water after the battle of Culloden. [Edinburgh : Printed by Sands, Brymer, Murray and Cochran , 1758] * Thornton, John. [Coasting pilot.] London : John Thornton at the signe of England, Scotland and Ireland in the Minories, [ca. 1706] Bartholomew Archive Project 82 volumes of the Bartholomew Archive Printing Record were conserved (1877-1935) to to May 2010, and cataloguing has reached volume 40 (1877-1904) - this work will continue until November 2013. The printing record is now searchable via the project's website http://digital.nls.uk/bartholomew/index.html New website additions * enhanced viewer for all maps on the website http://www.nls.uk/maps * new historical maps API, allowing out-of-copyright maps of Great Britain to be used in other websites and mashups http://geo.nls.uk/maps/api Research & Collaborative Projects * In March 2010, Dr Carolyn Anderson was awarded her PhD for her thesis on Constructing the Military Landscape: Board of Ordnance Maps and Plans of Scotland c.1707- c.1815. * AddressingHistory is a six-month project (April - Sept 2010), funded by JISC in collaboration with EDINA to create a tool to combine data from digitised historical Scottish Post Office Directories with mapping from the same period. http://edina.ac.uk/projects/addressinghistory_summary.html * Visualising Urban Geographies is a 15 month collaborative project which aims to bring together data provided by Professor Richard Rodger with maps provided by the NLS to create an online resource showing the spatial character and historical development of Edinburgh. Chris Fleet's appointment as temporary Map Collections Manager ended in March. Laragh Quinney (Map Services Manager) returned from maternity leave in April.
