Role Summary/Purpose
The Software Product Manager for GIS is a pivotal role within the
Software Solutions Group (SSG), working with Product Line Leaders (PLLs)
to understand their requirements and vision. The successful candidate
will lead a diverse group of 100+ lean / agile software engineers.
Translating the PLLs and SSG’s strategy and vision into a prioritized
list of user stories and deliverables required timelines and quality
standards, ensuring revenue maximization and profitability.
Essential Responsibilities
- Work with product line leaders and architects to
develop multi generation software technology plans - setting direction
for the teams
- Work directly with customers to understand
business and technical needs, capturing requirements and communicating
with stakeholders,
- Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse
- Support process improvements, which guide the development, sustaining & support activities
- Coach, mentor and lead the global team
- Work cross functionally with other business departments to align activities and deliverables including other SSG groups
- Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products
- Own team organization and staffing
- Deliver
resource strategy and plans, including use of 3rd parties/partners,
etc., in support of development and support activities
- Plan and manage budgets related to scope of team
- Communicate effectively both within immediate team and also across SSG leadership team and with PLLs
- Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy and results
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s of Science degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
- Demonstrated successful experience in a leadership role for Software Engineering using Agile techniques
- Demonstrated successful experience developing software in an agile environment
- Demonstrated successful experience leading global teams
- Green Belt Certification (for GE employees only)
Desired Characteristics
- Master’s degree / PHD in Computer Science
- High energy, results driven person with strong interpersonal skills
- Understands business objectives and executes specific tasks required to meet the objectives
- Effective team building and problem solving abilities
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including executive level presentation skills
- Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers
- Additional leadership experience in areas of operations or quality is preferred
- Black Belt certification is preferred (for GE employees)
- Experience working with remote locations is preferred
- Experience in software development environment would be a distinct advantage, including previous experience of writing code
