I’m very surprised to learn today that one of our severely dyslexic students is allowed to have a screen reader for his Functional Skills English READING exam.  No humans but a computer is now fine to carry out the job.  I thought this was a misprint but no. This is not simply a magnification tool but a piece of software such as JAWS that will read the text to him and am just wondering whose reading ability is being tested here.

I am all for students making the most of every concession they are eligible for but am very surprised about this decision.  C&G said with the introduction of Functional Skills, they did not want to see apprentices being held back.
