Hi everyone,

We have a severely disabled student with cerebral palsy living in Halls who's local social services are providing what we feel is a woefully inadequate level of care provision. Ideally the student needs 24h support but the local authority have decided they will only support a few hours each day for dressing, bathing, meals and toileting. The student has been advised by their authority that if they go for Direct Payments they will get less funding than they currently get by using their Social Services own provision. This means that at present they have to get up/go to be at fixed times, which is not conducive to an integrated and equal student life experience.

Can anyone offer any advice as to where this student might turn to for advice, assistance and/or advocacy to fight for an improved care package?

David
