Thanks to Jamie and Tim for a civilised and reasoned discussion. It shows that genuine poetic disagreements can be debated without rancour.

Original Message:

Tim, I'd felt my persistence with this topic was beginning to be annoying, so it's very reassuring to have your response. The qualities you ascribe to my contributions have been just as evident on all sides of the debate, your own incuded, but I'm grateful for your generous instinct. For most of the time I'm as intolerant and afflicted by bad faith as the next person!
I don't think we should worry about the agreement being too extensive - I'm sure we'll find many serious disagreements ahead. This goes back to what I said about the unlikelihood, or even the desirability of a reconciliation between two opposed aesthetic stances, at least in their more extreme forms. Now I think about it, this point may merely be repeating something Keston Sutherland wrote on a similar topic on Rob Archambeau's blog. What I would oppose, though, is the belief which that position might imply that there is just no common ground, and that any communication is futile.
Best wishes,
Jamie
